INTRODUCTION

Throughout history, wherever the teachings of Hermes were honored, civilization blossomed. When Egyptian sages and scholars found refuge in the emerging Arab world, they carried with them the Hermetic writings that would soon spark one of humanity’s great intellectual and spiritual renaissances. By the ninth century, the Muslim world had founded the legendary House of Wisdom in Baghdad, where the scientific and esoteric heritage of Alexandria was translated, expanded, and quietly preserved. From its revered place in the Egyptian sacred sciences, the Hermetica flowed into early Islamic thought, becoming a subtle yet potent current within its philosophy and a hidden scripture for the mystics and poets who would later be known as Sufis. The twelfth-century philosopher Suhrawardi sought to unify Islam with what he called the “original Universal religion,” affirming that all ancient sages transmitted a single doctrine first revealed to Hermes—whom he identified with Idris of the Qur’an and Enoch of the Hebrew tradition—and carried forward by Pythagoras, Plato, and the Zoroastrian Magi. Through illuminated Sufi masters such as the martyred Al-Hallaj and the mystic-philosopher Ibn ‘Arabi, this Hermetic stream shaped the esoteric heart of Sufism, where its wisdom continues to echo today.

“Hermetics and Sufi Mysticism” is a spiritual training designed for Sufi mystics and dedicated seekers who wish to understand and integrate Hermetic principles with the practices and teachings of Sufism (as well as other spiritual systems). It offers a path toward a deeper embodiment of the Greater Mysteries that each authentic tradition reveals to sincere practitioners.

This is an advanced training and pilgrimage to Jabal Musa, intended for committed spiritual seekers. It is not a traditional retreat; participants are expected to manage their own accommodation and personal needs independently.

Student level: A foundational familiarity with meditation practices is required. Existing energetic sensitivity will be an advantage.

The participants will be selected after the initial interview with the facilitator.
